DJ's Tree Service, owned and operated by Jim and Lisa Myers, has been named the 2019 Vermont Family-Owned Business of the Year by the Small Business Administration. The company is one of the largest professional tree care, removal and restoration services in northern Vermont and the Burlington area.
Jim Myers and his then business partner Dean Bumstead started the business in the 1970s with only a truck, a chain saw and a few basic hand held tools. The two were groundskeepers at the University of Vermont who often performed tree service as side work, but then decided to strike out on their own.
Today the business is a multimillion-dollar enterprise occupying a 10,000 square foot facility on Depot Road. DJ's Tree Service has 16 employees and a large fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment, including cranes, log loaders, chippers, skid steers, bucket truck, excavators and stump grinding equipment.
